  Dick Olson

Mark Humphrey, Commodore

Mark has been a member of South Shore Yacht Club since 1983. While Mark’s first sail was at age 3½, his active sailing began at age 18 when his dad, Kurt, purchased a small day sailor.  He has been active in sail racing for over 30 years.  Mark has served on the SSYC Board oif Directors for many years.  While retired and Mark maintains his professional status as an architect. He and his wife Peg live in South Milwaukee and are looking forward to spending time on their ‘new’ Lyman Crusiette.

 Becky Archibald

Rebecca Archibald, Vice Commodore and House Committee chair

Becky fell in love with sailing and South Shore Yacht Club racing on TARDIS with her father and fellow owners Mike and LeeAnne Dukes, Jane and Dave Durment, and a long list of notable crew.  She’s been a member of our South Shore community since joining in the early nineties as an associate. She and her husband Andy live in Bay View and enjoy spending time with friends at SSYC throughout the year. In addition to being avid sailors, they also like spending their summers on Smokeshow, their 1974 Chris Craft. Becky works in marketing at Rockwell Automation and is looking forward to promoting the Harbor of Hospitality to future members in her role as membership committee chair.

Tony Hetchler

Tony Hetchler, Rear Commodore and Slips Committee chair

Tony joined SSYC in January 2019 with his husband, Erich.  They are in their 4th season with a  2007 Sea Ray Sundancer 320 named “Bad Decisions” (Bad Decisions make the best stories!) that is kept on “F” Dock at McKinley Marina.  Tony is an IT Program Manager for Molson Coors and loves great beer.   You will often find them spending time at SSYC during the Summer months by boat and during the winter months, to get a much-needed boating “fix” while awaiting the next launch date. 

Gary Johnson

Bradley Kyle, Entertainment Committee chair

Brad joined SSYC in 2018 with his wife, Erika.  Brad has been actively helping out at work parties. Brad brings with him extensive experience in business management having an Executive MBA from the UWM Lubar School of Business.

 
Paul Bargren

 

Paul Bargren, Corresponding Secretary and Special Projects

Paul joined SSYC in 1980. He and wife Elizabeth now sail Caelum, their Hunter 356, and he's built some smaller boats for sail-camping, too. Paul was a journalist for 19 years, then an attorney for 22 years, retiring in 2016.  He served on the SSYC Board from 2016 to 2019 as corresponding secretary and head of the Publications Committee.  Most recently he's helped out with the Queen's Cup (Special Events) committee.

Mark Humpfrey

Thomas Kingston, Treasurer and Junior Advisory Committee chair

TK as he is known around the Club has been a member of SSYC for approximately five years. TK is an active sail racer.  TK has 30 plus years in various businesses leadership roles. TK’s business experiences include project management, strategic planning, complex agreement negotiations as well as credit and loan facility management, auditing complex cost and performance analysis.  Currently, TK is the owner of the Hoefler Group LLC – a consulting firm dedicated to resolving small business problems.  In addition, TK has held multiple leadership roles in volunteer positions with organizations ranging from PTA to GBC Charities.  TK looks forward to using his business experience to help manage and improve the Club. 

 Sally Parente 23

Sally Parente, Financial Secretary 

Sally Parente serves as the current Financial Secretary and Chair of the Finance Committee. She has been a member of SSYC for six years and has volunteered on various committees such as Entertainment, SS/SSS Race Committee, Queens Cup Race Committee, and formerly served on the SSYC Board as Corresponding Secretary and Chair of the Entertainment Committee. She is also a member of SSYC Auxiliary. A long time resident of the Milwaukee area, Sally enjoys both sailing and powerboating with her friends and family and is currently employed as a Senior Accountant at St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care in Bayview.

 Scott Burke 23

Scott Burke, Waterfront Services

Scott joined South Shore Yacht Club in 2009. He started sailing in Marblehead Massachusetts in the mid-eighties and acquired his first boat few years after moving to Milwaukee in 2000. Scott and his wife Barbara enjoy sailing aboard Chrisalyss, their Hunter 33, with family and friends. Scott has previously served on the Powerboat committee and on the SSYC Board, chairing the Sail Race and Special Events committees.

  PAUL BOERSMA

Paul Boersma, Strategic Planning

Paul and his wife, Sandra, have been members of SSYC for two years and have a Catalina 30 on D dock. Three years before joining SSYC, he was a member of the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center.  Professionally, Paul is a civil engineer (water resources and water management) and manages the Midwest operations for a large engineering firm.  He also has experience leading boards as President and as investment committee chairman.

  John Sutphen

John Sutphen, Sail Race Committee chair

John has been an active member of SSYC for several years. John has a BSME from University of Wisconsin - Madison, and works for a boiler manufacturer managing multiple new product development projects. John enjoys all forms of boating, is active in sailboat racing, and currently owns a Corsair F-28 trimaran, Isosceles, with one of his longtime Yeah Buoy (Catalina 30) crew members. He currently holds the position of SSYC MBOS fleet captain, serves on the Junior advisory committee, is a member of the Junior Foundation board, and is the current Junior fleet manager.

  Robert Roberson

Chris Mason, Powerboat Committee chair

Chris and is wife, Emily, have been Shared Members for over two years. They have a 23 foot pontoon boat on D Dock. Chris has an engineering background and has worked at Rockwell Automation for over 19 years in engineering and management roles. Chris has served as the assistant director of the Powerboat Committee.

Scott Langlois small  

Scott Langlois, By-Laws Committee chair 

Scott has been a member of SSYC for over 20 years and is a longtime member of the Bylaws Committee.  He was originally appointed to the Board and as Chairman of the Bylaw Committee to fill a vacancy.  Scott has drafted many amendments to the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws of the Club over his tenure on the Bylaw Committee and has assisted the Club in its negotiation with Milwaukee County on its Lease.  Scott is an attorney and is now retired after many years as a partner at a downtown Milwaukee law firm. Scott has lived in Bay View for over 30 years.

 Andrew Van Sickle

Andrew Van Sickle, Publications Committee chair

Andrew joined the club in the spring of 2015. Prior to joining the club, he spent several years racing on different boats and using club facilities. Andrew previously served on the Life Membership Committee and is currently the fleet captain for the Remote Control Dragon Force 65 fleet. He owns an S2 7.9 named "Kermit." Andrew is an airline pilot for Spirit Airlines. 

 Amelia Bifano 23

 Amelia Bifano, Membership Committee Chair

Amelia is a Florida native and joined South Shore Yacht Club in 2018 after being introduced to the club by sail racers. She was excited to join the Membership Committee right away to get more involved with the club and actively competes in multiple sail race fleets. Amelia is the Real Estate Manager for Trek Bicycle Company and lives in Bay View. When she’s not hanging at the Club or on the water with friends, she loves spending time with her two big rescue dogs, Bubba and Gus Gus.

 Joe Arcara

Joseph Arcara, IT Committee chair

Joe and his wife Karen have been members of SSYC for about five years.  They enjoy sailing on Lake Michigan.  Joe has run his own Information Technology business for 25 years.


Cheryl Kelly

Cheryl Kelly, Grounds Committee chair

Cheryl Kelly began sailing as a crew member at South Shore after being invited to race on Wednesday nights by a co-worker and friend twenty years ago. From there, she became permanent crew on a boat that sailed on the weekends as well along with her husband, a fellow racer at SSYC. They eventually bought their own boat and have been fortunate to make lifelong friends and build their own crew over the years. This evolved to include being a Fleet Captain and then joining the board as Sail Race Director for the South Shore Racing fleets. As a homeowner in the Bay View neighborhood, she enjoys spending time with friends both on and off the water in the extended sailing community.
