Juniors Update

By: Helen “Cookie” Mueller PC

The 22nd annual Junior Lock-In was held Jan. 3 at SSYC. Juniors arrived at 6:30pm with sleeping bags, games, DVDs and snacks in tow. They were ready to be “Locked In” the upstairs dining room for the evening. They would leave on Sunday at 10 a.m. The Junior Lock In is a special event for all active and involved juniors. To be eligible to attend the Lock In, they need to have a total of eight meeting and work days for the year. Thirty-one meet the requirement; 19 participated.

Special thanks to the chaperones for this event: Brian Adams, Dorothy Mietz, Sandra Doos, Jack Murphy and Stacy Trisco. You’ll recognize them around the club; they are the members walking around that look sleep deprived!

The evening consisted of video games, board games, cards, movies, hula hooping, tent building, devouring pizza, lots of laughter and continuous snacking. The chaperones reported that at around 3:30 a.m. the last of the kids finally yielded to sleep. Much to their chagrin, I arrived at 8:30 a.m. sharp to deliver a “wake-up” call and breakfast. A good time was had by all - even the chaperones!

Junior Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser

The annual Junior Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser for the Junior Foundation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 28. Spaghetti will be served 5 - 6:30 p.m. The cost is $7 for all you can eat. Dinner includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread and dessert. A culinary feast! No Wednesday wings will be served on that evening because of the dinner. After the dinner, plan on attending the SSYC Wednesday evening program at 7 p.m.

You can learn more about the various racing fleets by clicking here.  And the racing schedule (for all fleets) is available here.

PowerboatOur power boaters are active fishermen.  An annual fishing contest is held in July.

In addition, our power boaters host a number of events, usually on Thursdays as well as many weekends.
