Artka George 2014Where has the summer gone? It is so unfair that we waited so long for winter to be over and with a blink of an eye the summer is gone. During the month of September we were able to enjoy many activities sponsored by the club. Even as the weather turns cold we have the option to move events inside.  And that is what we did to have a very successful Western Night Party.

With the running of the Grudge Match and the Last Blast Regatta we will end the month with the last Friday night Double Handed Series. I would like to thank everyone who had a part in making these events very successful.

As we near the end of the year the Directors will start to work on their 2015 budget. At our General Membership meeting in September, our Treasurer Jeremy Burns, informed the membership on our progress on the 2014 budget. Jeremy stated that the budget was on track except in the area of food and beverage and bad debts. Food and beverage prices have risen drastically during the year. The increase in prices has taken us over budget for the year.

Bad debt is another area that is always a concern for the club. Members must be responsible and take care of paying their monthly statement on-time.  If you have any questions about your statement please contact the club office during working hours.

Efforts to reduce the cost of food and beverage and collection of late payments are taking place. Hopefully this will improve the bottom line of the 2014 budget.

Milwaukee County held a public meeting a few weeks ago on the re-design of South Shore Park. At the meeting they displayed a tentative site plan for the park. Around 20 South Shore Yacht Club members attended the meeting and they were able to express their opinions on the project. Elsewhere in the Compass will be a set of drawings of the proposed plans. Contact information is also be provided if you have any questions or concerns about the design.

The elections for new Directors and Flag Officers has taken place at the September General Membership meeting. I would like to personally thank our members for giving me the honor to serve the club as Commodore for another year.

Congratulations to our new (and in some cases returning) Flag Officers. The returning Flag Officers are Ken Dziubek, Vice Commodore; Jerry Kedziora, Rear Commodore; Rick Schoos, Financial Secretary and Jeremy Burns, Treasurer.  Our new Flag Officer is Luke Radomski, Corresponding Secretary and our new three-year-term Directors are Vince Verhasselt, Jim Casper, and Richard Olsen.

I personally would like to thank Dave Wehnes PC, Tom Gale, and Jerry Rakowski for their service on the Board of Directors. Serving on the Board for the years that these gentlemen have served, only goes to show how dedicated they were in helping to make South Shore Yacht Club successful.
