Gale Tom 2014I have to start this month by thanking everyone who worked on the Corn Roast and helped make it a huge success on Saturday August 9th.  In particular Jerry Kedziora, Ken Dziubek, and Scott Burke.  We had so many really great volunteers that the project is really an easy one to chair.  So to everyone who participated in cooking, serving, or just eating, thanks for being a part of the 2014 SSYC Corn Roast.

For entertainment we had the band “Aint MisBehavin”.  This is the band we’ve had twice for New Year’s Eve, and it was fun having them under the tent.  Once again, if people dancing is a measurement of success, this band and the event was a smash hit!

One more fun fact, the Wisconsin State Fair went through 104,000 ears of corn for their ten day run, or about 10,000 ears per day with one million people in attendance.   We went through 1,000 ears in 3 hours.  That’s some serious corn eating!

Last weekend we had our second annual Pirate Palooza.  This is just a great afternoon event for the kids and Laura Wehnes did a fantastic job once again as chief “Kid Wrangler”.  I can tell you from personal observation, she was “whipped” by afternoon’s end.  She featured lots of kid’s games, and face painting, but the high light of the afternoon was once again the attack of the Pirate ship Mouseketeer. The villainous Doug (Black Beard) Gallus, firing cannon round after round at all the Lades and Lassies on shore who brandished swords shouting a spirited “Aaarrrrgh”!  Leading them in the cheers was Ken Dziubek and returning cannon shot for cannon shot defending SSYC from attack was head Cannoneer Mike Dziubek.  The sound was defining and the air fills with smoke and the smell of black gun powder. It was quite the ruckus because we even got a complaint call from a neighbor.  So for the evening, we brought the band “South of DisOrder” into the Club for Jimmy Buffet style music for the rest of the evening.  Great band and lots of fun, I’m sure we’ll have them back.  Have to also thank Chef Sam and company for a great Picnic spread direct from the grill of corn, brats, burgers, beans, and potato salad.  What says Summer in Wisconsin better than that?

Country nightOur next event is our second annual Western Night under the tent on Saturday September 13.  We bring in a hundred bails of straw and with a genuine Country Western Band, it’s a good old fashioned “Barn Dance”!  It’s a costumed event, so grab your cowboy hats, boots and spurs and join us for an Authentic “Western BBQ” from Chef “Texas Sam”.  Cynthia Johnson creates the theme and this is one you won’t want to miss.

The following Saturday September 20th, I’ll be doing another SSYC Klub Karaoke night with a mix of new singers and some “Dance Sets”.  Please put that on your calendars as we’ll also have some sandwich specials that night to help soak up some of the alcohol.

September’s General Membership Meeting is Election Time. Remember, you can nominate from the floor if you’d like someone on the Board.  Please consider running (particularly if you’re under 50!)

Finishing out my term on the BOD of SSYC are the following events:
September 13th – Country Western – BBQ and Dance -  Band “TBA”
   September 20th – Karaoke
October 11th – Change of Watch - Band “Hat Trick”
October 25th – Halloween Party - Band “Jam It”
December 31st – NYE - Band  “Usual Suspects” (Same as last year, but new name)

It’s been a great six years.  Thanks for all the support!
