Artka George 2014If you’ve had a chance to be around the club this past month, you can't help but notice all of the wonderful activities taking place. Our boating season started with the beginning of our Wednesday night sailing races. As our Sail Race Director Rick Trisco states: "We ran two races and we canceled two races." Hopefully, the weather will improve for the rest of the season.

We continued with Power Boaters Thursday night events which were well attended, especially when we were able to shoot up our old flares. Then we held our Review of the Fleet. We were lucky to have good weather so our boats could be blessed for the upcoming year. We also had a wonderful dinner and music under the tent. I would like to thank all of the visiting Commodores for attending our special event.

South Shore Yacht Club was lucky enough to become the home base for the "2014" introduction of new Evinrude outboard motors. This event welcomed dealers from around the world and it was a great opportunity to showcase our club and welcome the participants to the Harbor of Hospitality. The event was very successful for Evinrude and our club. While talking with many of the event participants, some of them commented on how hospitable and friendly we were and how they enjoyed the club and the facilities.

The fun continues starting on June 25th as skippers from all over Lake Michigan converge to SSYC as we get ready for the biggest party of the year for the QUEEN'S CUP event.

I am proud to say that our club is now designated as a Clean Marina. Over the past six months our manager and members have been working hard toward being certified as a clean marina. Several members for the Clean Marina organization reviewed our policies and procedures. They inspected our overall operations as a Yacht Club and Marina. The organization was very impressed with our operation and as of June 11, 2014, we can fly our Clean Marina flag proudly.

Make sure you check the SSYC calendar and get ready for a fun filled summer. See you at the Club.

SailboatsIf you are interested in sailing, and more specifically racing, there are ample opportunities to join one of our racing fleets, or to crew on one of the boats in those fleets.  The women's fleet races on Mondays, small boats race on Tuesdays.  Big boats race on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  And the double handed fleet races on Fridays.

You can learn more about the various racing fleets by clicking here.  And the racing schedule (for all fleets) is available here.

PowerboatOur power boaters are active fishermen.  An annual fishing contest is held in July.

In addition, our power boaters host a number of events, usually on Thursdays as well as many weekends.
