Gale Tom 2014Happy New Year fellow Yacht Club members, I hope you’re joining us Tuesday evening for the last party of the year and certainly one of the dressiest.  Tuxedos at SSYC are getting as common as red aprons at a power boater’s BBQ.  At least half of the men at the Power Boater’s ball, a good sprinkling at the “Retro” party, and the majority of the men at our NYE party are all wearing “Black Tie”.  Of course our Ladies have always loved to “dress to the nines”, and I have to believe some of the guys have been strongly encouraged to take the plunge and buy a Tux.  Whatever the reason, we certainly have one good looking party group.  VERY Classy!

Speaking of New Year’s Eve, It’s too late to make the dinner, but not the party in the lower lounge.  Please come and dance to the music of “Exhibit A”.  Thanks to manager Pat Nora, we’ve had one of the best lineup of bands I’ve seen in years.  I tell Pat what I’d like to hear and sends me links to two or three bands.  But for NYE, we looked at five or six bands before we found “Exhibit A”.  All the bands were good, be we wanted a group who were so entertaining, people would stop dancing just to watch them perform.  I think we found them, so stop by NYE and let me know what you think.

The first party of 2014 will be Saturday January 18th for our annual Chili Festival with another great band called “Blue Light Scene “.  It will be some Hot Chili and Hot Music on cold winter’s night.  That’s the same date as my 45th wedding anniversary, so I may be stopping by for just the Music later in the evening.  I have a feeling that if I told my wife I’m taking her out for Chili on our anniversary, I might not see my 46th…..(if you know what I mean).

Speaking of Party Planning, I’m very pleased to announce that on December 10th we had a joint planning meeting with the Power Boaters Committee, the Sail Race Committee, and the Club staff to set up all of 2014.  Our goal was not to just avoid conflicts, but more importantly, to try and have something going on at the Club almost every week.  Last year the Entertainment Committee was involved in 17 events.  If you look in the Club Handbook, we’re “Officially” responsible for only 8 events.  So, I have to give a big “Thank You” to the Committee for a FANTASTIC job. For two of the events, I wasn’t even in the City.   Look for 2014 to be even Better!

So, while we have “place holders” for 2014 events, we still need to put the individual details together.  Our first Entertainment Committee meeting will be Wednesday January 8th at 7pm.  If you’re a new member, I’d like extend my personal invitation to you to come to the committee meeting.  Creating a lot of the social events for the Club is great fun and you get to meet and know some terrific people.

Hopefully Packer Parties will continue every Sunday through the Super Bowl.  We’re very pleased everyone is enjoying our new 50 inch HD LED TV brought to you courtesy of the Entertainment Committee.  Hope to see many of you NYE and in the mean time, GO PACK and welcome back Aaron Rogers!

SailboatsIf you are interested in sailing, and more specifically racing, there are ample opportunities to join one of our racing fleets, or to crew on one of the boats in those fleets.  The women's fleet races on Mondays, small boats race on Tuesdays.  Big boats race on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  And the double handed fleet races on Fridays.

You can learn more about the various racing fleets by clicking here.  And the racing schedule (for all fleets) is available here.

PowerboatOur power boaters are active fishermen.  An annual fishing contest is held in July.

In addition, our power boaters host a number of events, usually on Thursdays as well as many weekends.
