graubner george 2014The torch as been passed and this is my first article as the new committee chair of SSYC’s Power Boaters!  I am excited to work with all of you and look forward to a fun-filled year.   A special thanks to Russ Berg for all his efforts and years of service to SSYC.

Our Power Boaters Ball in November was a huge success.   And many thanks to Chef Sam and his staff for a delish menu….Dessert was a hit!  Also, a big thanks to those who helped decorate for the special touches and thanks to our hostess and wait staff.  For all those that attended….you’re the reason it has become such a successful event!  It was nice to see that not only power boaters attended, but sailors as well…..after all, you have a motor too.  So we hope to see you at more of the power boaters functions!

This brings me to an important date for you to put on your calendars….December 10th!  Power boaters along with the Entertainment committee, Sail Race committee, and juniors will be formalizing our dates for the upcoming 2014 season.

I have reserved, January 9th, to plan the Power Boaters individual events.   I hope you will set this date aside and bring your ideas and willingness to work on the various events that we plan!    Watch the Compass for future times or visit our website!

Our next big event for the New Year is the Power Boaters Valentine’s Day brunch on February 16th.  We will need volunteers to help continue to make this event successful.    If you’re looking for a weekend away, block out your calendar for the Annual Gambling get away scheduled for March 22nd & 23rd!

Feel free to contact me at anytime to share ideas … you may email me at ;  or call.

SailboatsIf you are interested in sailing, and more specifically racing, there are ample opportunities to join one of our racing fleets, or to crew on one of the boats in those fleets.  The women's fleet races on Mondays, small boats race on Tuesdays.  Big boats race on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  And the double handed fleet races on Fridays.

You can learn more about the various racing fleets by clicking here.  And the racing schedule (for all fleets) is available here.

PowerboatOur power boaters are active fishermen.  An annual fishing contest is held in July.

In addition, our power boaters host a number of events, usually on Thursdays as well as many weekends.
