safetyladderQuick action to an issue that was brought to the attention of Slips Chairman, Mel Fabiszak will make SSYC a safer place. Last week a member fell into the water at the North dock, she was ‘rescued’ with the help of several Club members although the task was a bit of a struggle since there wasn’t a safety ladder available at the water level. With in a day or two after Mel was informed of the problem he set about installing a sturdy ladder on the East end of the North dock. This should be a ‘life saver’ to any future person who happens to find themselves in the water. A reminder/caution though, the ladder should not be used as a docking cleat.

A reminder is also in order about a boat etiquette issue. Members should be aware that it NEVER is appropriate to board or allow a guest to board another member’s boat without the boat owners consent.

About 30 SSYC members invaded the Maplecrest Country Club last Sunday for a fun day of a scramble golf outing. The weather was perfect even if some of the golf swings weren’t. The event set up by General Manager Pat Nora, was so well received by all the participants that another may be held later this Fall.

We continue on our course toward full membership. At last week’s Board of Directors meeting 23 new members were welcomed in bring our Active membership to 530. At the September Board meeting nearly a dozen more applicants will be voted upon. We're well on our goal of full membership. Keep recruiting your friends and crew members to join our fantastic club!
