It has been a great summer with so many great events at the club and on the water. Bring on beautiful fall weather. We can still have another month of boating (if we are lucky).
Our next meeting is the day after Labor Day – Tuesday Sept.3rd at 7:00 PM. We will have a short business meeting followed by our featured speaker – Commodore Dave Wehnes telling us about his “Great Western Adventure”.
We had a terrific fund raiser this year selling merchandise during the Queen’s Cup. Thank you to all the workers and shoppers. We are able to donate over $8000.00 to the club to build a new retaining wall on the west and south side of the building. A few years ago we donated the money to do the north side of the building. This is our donation to the club for 2013 and 2014.
The club continues to grow with many new members coming onboard these last few months. The Auxiliary welcomes you to come check us out at our next meeting. We would love to get to know you and what a great way to increase your circle of friends at the club. We welcome all – sailors, power boaters and social members.
To all Auxiliary members – bring a guest to the September meeting. If you see new club members, invite them. You can never have too many friends.
Mark your calendars for Shipmates Night at our Oct. 1st meeting. We invite our spouses/significant others to join us after our short 6 PM meeting (so about 6:30). We will have dinner prepared by Chef Sam and his crew (always good) followed by our entertainment “An Elvis Impersonator”. Auxiliary members are asked to provide pies for desert. Reservations can be made at our September meeting or calling the club office.
If you are interested in sailing, and more specifically racing, there are ample opportunities to join one of our racing fleets, or to crew on one of the boats in those fleets. The women's fleet races on Mondays, small boats race on Tuesdays. Big boats race on Wednesdays and Saturdays. And the double handed fleet races on Fridays.
You can learn more about the various racing fleets by clicking here. And the racing schedule (for all fleets) is available here.
SSYC offers sailing lessons and a year-round program for children ages 8 - 18. We offer a six-week series of lessons in Opti's, 420's and Lasers. Our juniors attend a number of regattas throughout the summer, and host one of thelargest regattas on Lake Michigan, the Kaszube Cup.
Click here to learn more about the Junior program, and here to find out more about the Kaszube Cup regatta.
The restaurant is open every Friday for lunch and dinner.
The Entertainment Committee hosts various parties, including:
St. Patrick's Day
Review of the Fleet
Change of Watch
New Year's Eve
and many other, less formal, events throughout the year.
