, joined SSYC in 1977. This is his second stint of service on the SSYC Board, having served as a Director from the mid-1980s to 1991. During his previous tenure as a Director he chaired many of the club’s committees including the Seventy-Fifth Anniversary Committee. Elected to the Board again in 2002, he has served as Director and Financial Secretary. Chairing the Public Relations/Publications and Audit/Budget & Finance Committees. In more than 30 years of club membership he has been active in one-design, PHRF and club racing. He is the Fleet Captain of the Double-Handed Fleet. He is retired, sails a Catalina 36 and “...is always at the club.”

Vice Commodore
David Wehnes joined SSYC in 1988. He is chairman of the Special Events Committee, and is a member of the Slip and House Committee. Dave has been sailing at SSYC since he was 14, first on a neighbor’s boat, then with his father, and now on his own boat, Caravel. He is a regular participant in the SS/SSS racing series as well as several distance races, including the Queen’s Cup. He lives in Wauwatosa WI, and has recently retired after a long career at AT&T.

Rear Commodore
George Artka, House Committee Chair, began pleasure boating and fishing on Lake Michigan in the late 1970s. He joined the South Shore Yacht Club in 1988. Since joining the club he has volunteered to help in many of the activities held at the club. Most recently he has organized the Fish on Fish Off fishing tournament. This is his first time serving on the board as the House Committee Chairman.

Corresponding Secretary
Past Commodore and chair of the By-Laws Committee, Michael Dukes has been a member of South Shore Yacht Club for 52 years and has served on the Board of Directors and as a Flag officer for the last 22 years. Michael has been active in SSYC Sail Racing, Cruising, Community relations and has served on all of the South Shore Yacht Club volunteer committees including the Facilities Remolding Committee in the 1970’s and received the Al an Erv Nickel Memorial Award in 1991 for service to the club. As Commodore in 2000 Michael initiated the current Facility Remolding Committee

Treasurer
Gary Mattson, Audit and Budget Chairman, joined SSYC in 1981. He has served on the Board of Directors for fifteen years; as a Director, Financial Secretary, Vice Commodore, and elected Commodore in 2001 & 2002. He is the current Club Treasurer. Gary has chaired the Grounds, Slip, Sail Race and Membership Committees. He received the Al and Erv Nickel Memorial Award in 2006 for service to the club.

Financial Secretary
Jerry Kedziora, Insurance Committee Chair, joined SSYC in June of 1976. In the mid-eighties was elected to the board of directors and chaired the grounds and sail race committees. In addition, Jerry was involved in the purchase of the Lily E race committee boat. An active sail racer and “back in the day “, Jerry participated in power boat predicted log competitions. Jerry has been active on the grounds, sail race, house, waterfront services, slip, race/protest special events, budget and public relations/publications committees and is a race management volunteer. He currently, sail races, chairs the insurance committee and is SSYC’s financial secretary.

Chair of the Publications & Information Services Committee, Bob Aring, has been a member of South Shore Yacht Club since 1971 and has served for over 10 years as a director, Rear Commodore, Vice-Commodore, and Commodore from 2008 and 2009. Bob serves on the House, Race, Grounds, Publications, Slips, Water Front Services and Junior Advisory Committees. Bob is a Certified Club Race Officer and is involved in running races as well as competing in them.

Director
Powerboat Committee Chair Russ Berg has been boating on Lake Michigan for over 30 years. His first large boat was named "NSF", a fitting name, as the check to purchase the vessel, bounced. The largest boat was a 50 foot Chris Craft (1950). He has worked in the engineering and inspection business since 1974, and is now a semi-retired building inspector for Intervest Inspections, Inc. He joined South Shore Yacht Club in 1988, and has been on numerous committees, including chairman of the Power Boat Committee. Russ enjoys cooking, and can often be found "flipping burgers or omelets" at club functions. Russ enjoys sail boat functions as well, and participated in the Queen's Cup Race in 2006 as the finish boat. Russ and Mary were married on the "Spirit of Milwaukee" on Lake Michigan and had their reception at SSYC. They enjoy using the club house for other business and family functions - it is like a second home.

Mike Blackwood joined SSYC as a junior in 1975. He was elected to the Board of Directors and appointed Chairman of the Junior Advisory Committee in 2004. He oversees the Junior program which includes sailing lessons, racing, powerboat activities, and social events. Mike is also active with sailboat racing. He was the International 210 fleet captain for 7 yrs. and is currently the Snipe fleet captain.

Slip Committee Chair Nello Copen, began racing on members boats in the late 70s at South Shore and joined the club in 1988. Active in the SS-SSS and PHRF racing fleets, first in the spinnaker divisions and currently in the JAM fleet. Nello worked on the race committee and volunteered and assisted on several other committees through the years. Retired from employment after 29 years in plastics.

Sail Race Chair, Ken Dziubek has been a member of SSYC since 1986. Ken has worked on the SS/SSS Race Committee with Barbara Drake, Protest Committee, and various club projects. Ken is an Erv and Al Nickel recipiant along with his brother Raymond Dziubek. Ray and Ken originated the Great PS'er to have a fun event that sail and power boaters can do together. Ken enjoys sailing with his wife Sandy.

Tom Gale Chairs the Memership Committee, and also serves on the Budget, Entertainment and By-Laws committees. A Commercial Real Estate Broker by profession, Tom was an integral part of the 40 year SSYC lease negotiation with Milwaukee County. Tom and his wife are sailors and cruise Lake Michigan on "Gale Force".

Jim Peterson, Grounds Committee Chair, joined SSYC in 1977. Was a power boater in the Winnebago area before buying a sailboat and joining SSYC. Was an active sail racer and crewed on different boats. In 2005 he bought a trawler and cruises with his wife Kay. He still sail races with his son on a Snipe. He has been active on the house committee for 20 years and has served on the junior, slip, and waterfront committees.
