Milwaukee's
South Shore Yacht Club
From modest
beginnings in 1913, South Shore Yacht Club has grown to be the
largest yacht club in Wisconsin. Our members strive for a feeling of
family, and take pride in being known as the "Harbor of Hospitality" on the Great Lakes.
The Club
encompasses a variety of boating enthusiasts. Boating activities
range from competitive, and casual day sailing, to an active power
boating fleet. South Shore Yacht Club has something for everyone.
Membership in the club consists of a majority of active members,
followed by Life members, associate members (under 30 years of age),
Non-residents, Juniors and Auxiliary members. Please contact the
general manager for specific information on membership.
SSYC Facilities
Club facilities
reflect the attitude of our members...warm, friendly and inviting. A
well-staffed facility perfect for socializing and entertaining
dominates the main level. Dining in the upstairs restaurant is
always an enjoyable experience due in large part to the spectacular
view of Lake Michigan. Extra care is given to "Theme Nights"
featuring many ethnic menus and amenities. Each month, Sunday
Brunches are featured and special brunches are held on occasions
such as Easter, Mother's Day, and Father's Day.
Everyone loves a
great party, and members of the South Shore Yacht Club are no
exception. Holiday celebrations, the Change of the Watch Party, and
a special New Year's Eve bash are just a few of the memorable events
hosted by the Club. South Shore Yacht Club continues to be an
institution for entertaining, recreation, relaxation, and
competitive boating on Lake Michigan.
Junior Program
Open to young
people ages eight through eighteen the Junior Program at South Shore
Yacht Club is one of the most highly regarded in the country. Junior
membership is available to all young people interested in learning
yachting and navigational skills. An eight-week summer sail lesson
program is available with an emphasis on safe boating. Qualified
instructors teach all levels of techniques and skills, so any young
person can begin a lifetime of nautical enjoyment.
SSYC Power Boating
In keeping with
our goals of hospitality and friendship, the South Shore Yacht
Club's Powerboat Committee sponsors a variety of social and
competitive events. Many charitable and social events are scheduled
throughout the season, including a benefit boat ride to aid worthy
beneficiaries. The power boaters have become know for well organized
weekend trips to other ports that are scheduled throughout the
summer. The spirit of fine yachting is reflected in the activities
of the power boaters at the South Shore Yacht Club.
SSYC Sailing and Racing
South Shore Yacht
Club has a long and distinguished tradition of sponsoring and
encouraging sailboat racing. The race program includes a full range
of activities, all scheduled, promoted and supervised by the South
Shore Yacht Club Race Committee. This Race Committee has become
